Notes
This is Giblin Tape #33
Note on the Giblin Tapes:
A series of approximately 100 master cassettes of Spin Doctors live recordings appeared in a second-hand store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The store found Mark White (the bassist of the Spin Doctors) via Facebook and told him about them. Eric Brodsky, with financial help from a number of fans, arranged for the tapes to be purchased and David Landsberger picked them up from the store. The tapes are gradually being digitized and made available on archive.org.
The tapes appear to be some of the master recordings of Sean Giblin based on both the content and the handwriting on the tapes. Most of the recordings are from between 1991-1993, with a few exceptions. Sean worked for the Spin Doctors for many years and was a good friend to the greater Spin Doctors community. Unfortunately, he passed away early. How his cassettes ended up in the second-hand store approximately 10 years after his passing is unknown.
The audio source of most of the cassettes is unknown. From my memory, Sean recorded his cassettes on a Sony D5. When recording from microphones, I believe he mostly used Nakamichi 300s. However, as he ran the monitor system for the Spin Doctors, many recordings come from the monitors system. Others seem to be a more traditional soundboard source.
